Chi Alpha is an international
Christian campus ministry (not a "Greek" organization like a
fraternity or sorority) made up of students from all over the US and the world.
Although we are sponsored by the Assemblies of God ,
students from all religious backgrounds are welcome.
Pursuing our mission
Chi Alpha strives to fulfill Christ's Great Commission on the university and
college campuses of America. Our goal is to see students, faculty, and staff
become wholly obedient to God--allowing every area of their lives to come under
His oversight.
We pursue our mission by involving students in a community of faith. In doing
so, we seek to emulate the early church, finding our strategy in their
lifestyle. Specifically, we look to Acts 2:42-47.
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to
the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many
wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were
together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods,
they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together
in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with
glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the
people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being
saved.
In this passage, we see the early church living their lives in obedience to
Christ. They focus on five key tasks:
- Prayer: "they devoted themselves . . . to prayer"
- Worship: "broke bread" "met together in the temple
courts" "praising God"
- Fellowship: "devoted themselves . . . to the fellowship"
"had everything in common" "met together" "ate
together"
- Discipleship: "devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching"
- Witness: "and the Lord added to their number daily those who were
being saved"
It is our firm conviction that this is how God wants us to live our lives.
Therefore, we seek to incorporate these five elements of the Christian life into
everything we do.
We're Here to Help
University life presents many challenges to a student's spiritual life. But it
also offers opportunities for growth and deepening one's relationship to God and
other students.
Chi Alpha is here to help make your time at the university a growing and
thriving time, full of friendship and opportunities for service and ministry.
There are many different ways to plug into the Chi Alpha community. For most
students, the easiest way to meet people and get involved is to come to our
weekly worship meeting on Thursdays at 12:30 in Webb Center (See main page for
place). In addition to attending the Thursday meeting, many of our students join
a small group. These student-led Bible studies will help you not only learn more
about what the Bible says, but will also provide you with practical help as you
begin to live out what it says.
Big Plans
We believe that God has big plans for you while you are here at school. He is
interested in every aspect of your life: your spirituality, your emotional
health, your relationships... even your academics. If we can help you with these
or any other areas of your life, please give us a call. Any of our staff or
student leaders will be happy to get together with you to listen, talk, pray,
and help.
